Both series have demon hunting, a half-demon main character, and a Japanese highschool setting. There are also many almost identical character archetypes. Both series have a theme of not all demons being evil, while having gratuitous amounts of combat between the characters and demons. Action/animation quality and the general "feel" are comparable.
It should be noted that Ao no Exorcist is more focused on the main character and his training, while Kyokai no Kanata splits the focus between the two main characters and their romance.

In Kyoukai no Kanata there are spirit hunters and spirits and in Ao no Exorcist there are similarly exorcists and demons. So they're very simiral when it comes to the exorcisms /battles. Kyoukai no Kanata's kind of humour is also found in Ao no Exorcist, but in bigger doses, and they both contain the ''many characters all coming together to defeat their enemy and the relationships they have are also presented'' element. If you enjoyed the plot and character development of Kyoukai no Kanata you'll definitely adore Ao no Exorcist!
These two are quite different, but I think the vibe of the shows could be described as similar to each other. I don't know. Both have demons, even tho the perspective to them is quite different. Kyoukai no Kanata has more of a romance focus overall than Ao no Exorcist but the human relationship aspect has similarities.
