Despite the more sic-fi like genre in Mai-HiME the yuri and slice of life are seen in both series. In Mai-HiMe it is a lot more subtext. It is only later on that the relationships/love between characters becomes a lot more clear though it is not viewed upon as favourably.
Shizuru in particular remind me a lot of Shizuma in their similar school/social standing as well as their flirtatious attitudes though one is far less featured then the other. Either way it is a great show and I do recommend it.
