Similar stories, both feature a wide range of characters who fight to protect what they consider precious. In both anime many characters will die because of the mystifying "game".
Similarities:
~Mecha
~Teenagers are chosen to "pilot" a Mecha
~They have to fight other robots to save their world
~Death is a common theme in these fights.
Both are anime with Mechs/robots with themes of sacrifice and love. Bokura no is definitely more heavy hitting, but Mai HIME is worth the watch.
