Hotarubi no Mori e

The two movies have different settings (Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo shows another realm, while Hotarubi no Mori e is set in our world with a hint of fantasy) but still sound the same due to the fact that they both mix slice of life and fantasy. Besides, while being light and somewhat romantic both have a sad note, as both deal with another world that is harmed by humans (lost land and the world of spirits accordingly). Besides, both philosophize about distant love and death and are touching and somewhat sad.
What's more, both movies have grasping art and show striking landscapes and sceneries.

Whilst one is more romance based, both are visually stunning movies that centre around the idea of a female growing up and reflecting on the goodbyes they ultimately face. Both have a childlike innocence yet may leave a bitter-sweet taste in some viewers mouths. Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo is the slightly more action based one, where as Hotarubi no Mori e is about a couple who cannot touch.
They both are set in two different worlds. The main character of these anime is a normal girl who doesn't have any special abilities. These anime is about the characters feelings toward one another. They both have deep morals. They both affect your feelings very much. In the end of these anime the characters have gain or lose something important to their life thus they learn more about life.
