They both show the loneliness of people, chosen to fight against evil spirits. Also, these people collect demons' souls and get personal rewards for them (soul gems in Madoka Magica, and gem-stones-like in KnK).
These two anime are very similar with basic ideas of the characters. Our heroine of the story is a young girl with magical powers to fight off evil.

Both have magical-girl type characters. Both main characters get more powerful through friendship. Girly art style with intense fighting. Both are dark fantasies mixed with the supernatural. Similarly likable characters. Beautiful art and music in both.
The two animes are dramatic yet have some joyous moments in it. The main female protagonists in both stories are hesitating on the decision that they have, whether to do it or not. Both stories revolves around killing monsters, which is a sworn duty and a way of living(kind of). These two are really good, could make you stick on the series till you finish it.

Both similar vibe, in both worlds there´s character who fight demons in order to live,
the main is a girl who suffers because of her magical powers in both anime
Puella Magi (Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica) and Kyoukai no Kanta's form of economy is very similar. When you defeat a monster it drops an ore that can be appraised for currency to live off of. The organizations are also similar for example Kyoukai no Kanata has Spirit World Warriors that fight off monsters that create natural disasters while in Puella Magi the Magical Girls also fight monsters creating negative energy/disasters.
