Aside from both shows being a reverse harem with a historical setting, the main leads are quite similar. They are both very strong willed, never running away from problems, and they have a clear goal in which they're set on achieving. Both leads also have a protector who they knew since childhood, and that protector is willing to do anything to keep the main leads safe.

They are both historical reverse harem, so one makes you think about the other instantly. Somehow the design character of Soowon is rather similar to Ryuuki. The bodyguard Seiran/ Hak.. and the many more adventures of the main lady characters. Awsome soundtrack for both!

Let's see: Akatsuki no Yona and Saiunkoku Monogatari have quite a few things in common and yet they still do differ from eachother in an interesting unique way. - They are both reverse harem which involves the main girl surrounded by amazing guys who will help her through the story; however in AnY, to avoid major spoilers to anyone, we can just say that it won't be the classic "reverse harem" that everyone expects with tons of romantic feelings everywhere around the corner; which, in my opinion, makes it even more enjoyable because is not typically predictable on this point of view. - The series are both   read more

Similar feels, similar female protagonists. Special main girl who has a cult following of powerful, beautiful men who would give their lives to protect her. She is not a helpless Mary-Sue type female, and is very strong and determined and even inspirational. This anime gave me feels. Definitely one of my favorite anime, along with Yona. If you loved Yona, you will LOVE Saiunkoku Monogatari.

Both anime have a very similar story setting. The female leads in both are extremely determined young women who travel a fair amount and come across various interesting individuals during their journey. Saiunkoku Monogatari has a good overall wholesome story, whereas Akatsuki no Yona feels incomplete. Akatsuki no Yona is breathtakingly beautiful.

Both are taking place in a world with historical aspects with fantasy somehow involved. Are reverse harems with strong female leads that works for their goals while caring for the people in their country and are connected to the king romantically

The medieval asian environment is present in two animes. Good drawing, music, characters and plot. Both anime are highly recommended.

In both series: - Main heroine builds her future and realizes her ambitions herself - The heroine is surrounded by many men, falling for her determination and charm - Both anime are historical - Heroine's bodyguards are similar in both shows - Both shows have a political game going on, based in what the series are built

These both have a fantastical ancient Asian atmosphere with a strong willed heroine determined to take charge of her own destiny and help the people of her country.

Both are historical dramas set in a fantasy twist on a historical location. Akatsu no yona is based on Korea while Saiunkoku is based on imperial China. Both have tons of political intrigue and drama. Both have strong female leads, with lots of supporting male characters. I would hesitate to call Saiunkoku a reverse harem (while Yona is definitely a reverse harem) but it has lots of opportunities to ship various male characters with the female lead.

- Yona of the Dawn draws on fantasy, whereas Saiunkoku Monogatari is more political, but they both feel historical and have strong female leads. - Both include supernatural events, drama, hints of romance, a strong male "body guard", a princess, and some comedy as well as a couple of completely hopeless but entertaing characters. - Both anime feature a strong-willed female lead surrounded by men trying to make it in "a mans world".

Both center on a noblewoman character who is charismatic and draws strong men to her. They both fight corruption in their kingdom and change over time from innocence to more shrewd women who will fight for the future of the nation.

If you liked Akatsuki no Yona then you might like Saiunkoku Monogatari. If you liked the magnificent setting with emperors, princesses and generals in a made-up ancient Korea/China, portrayed in a colorful historical fantasy world with bishounen characters in long robes with long sleeves and gold brocades as in Akatsuki no Yona then Saiunkoku Monogatari should be something for you. If you also liked a different love story with a captivating protagonist, funny moments and a more serious plot that already begin at the first episode, you should try out this series.
