both suspenceful and have a cat and mouse chase for the protaganist to find out the identity of the antagonist. Both animes explain things so it makes it easier for hte viewer, although Higurashi can be a bit confusing at times. Both are ranked pretty high too.
Both are of the horror and mystery catagory. They deal with people solving crimes that have to do with mysterious/random murders. Also both have lots of killing in them.

Higurashi and Death Note both have a plot that keeps the audience engaged rather than relying solely on horror elements for shock value. Though those elements are certainly present, they don't seem like the catalyst to keep people tuning in. They also involve mystery, though in Higurashi the audience tries to solve it, while in Death Note, the audience knows the answers, giving a similar feeling to Higurashi on a rewatch. On top of the interesting story, the characters of each series are very well developed.

Both animes are suspense. Higurashi is a psychological terror, holding the attention until the second season, which resolve most of the mysteries of the first season.

If u liked Deatn Note u will enjoy Higurashi, both share kills, blood and mistery. Higurashi will catch your attention from the first chapter.
Death Note and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni not only both have interesting, tragic, and well-written/developed characters, but also a purpose of depicting the perils and wrongs in trying to take on the role of God.

Descendence to insanity. Death Note and Higurashi both feature fairly regular school children slowly descending into madness that awaits them.
While Death Note is about Light's insane formation of a god complex, thus losing his humanity. Higurashi offers how secrets of the small village Hinamizawa, can turn the inhabitants paranoid of who they are trusting and befriending, falling a into a deep hole one cannot get themselves out of.
Although the plot varies, both are good mystery anime about murder. Though Death Note uses mind games, Higurashi uses horror.
