Guns. Piles of dead bodies. Mafia. Mercenaries. Filthy fictional cities. Sexy, traumatized women in skimpy outfits. Centered on the gritty action surrounding one insanely badass and cool cast, they share non-japanese settings, names and languages, and are riddled with bullets, money, cigarettes, drama and dark humour. Rock and Alex find themselves in the same situation, as innocent individuals teaming up with a lawless, albeit neutral, freelance group in a corrupted, ugly world. More character similarities in the series include a scarred (and scary) military woman, the young blonde heir of a wealthy family and - later on - a pair of ruthless, gothic killer children. Imagine a world where the law plays no vital part in, it’s your way or the death highway… if your attentions are drawn in then prepare yourself for a joyous ride filled with money and bloodshed. The quality of the songs presented by these giants are just the tip of the iceberg in this overwhelming experience. ‘Gangsta’ plunges right into business, showing the sickening circumstances and filth which existed in front of your very doorstep. Might makes right and territory comes with it, the only victors are the ones equal in footing but deadlier in passion and would do whatever necessary to erase a target. Sexual   read more

- both the Lagoon Company and Benriya are NEUTRAL parties in the story - criminals, gangs, drugs and violence - in a setting where crime is prevalent (and normal) - diverse cast - (many) characters with tragic pasts - carry a similar "vibe"

Definite reminder of Black Lagoon. From the art style, to the characters, to just the general setting of gangsters. If you've seen black lagoon there is no way that you don't watch this without thinking about it.

Both shows have a serious tone to them, with action that manages to be flashy and over-the-top without letting itself become too unrealistic. They also both focus on mercenary organizations that operate outside the law but still manage to have a tentatively good relationship with law enforcement. The main characters of each show manage to feel somewhat different, although they have a similar level of ideals and morality (or lack thereof) when it comes to the work they do.

Similar in style and themes. Both feature heavy action in a gang-controlled city, with groups of criminals not tied to any particular gang of mafia and work freelance.

Do you like badass gangs and gun fights? Well gangsta was pretty bad at it honestly so if you were expecting more interesting characters and fights look no further.

Both anime have a similar atmosphere. The events happen in a city where different criminal factions reside. Both feature protagonists who are proficient with weapons and do illegal jobs for different clients. They also have a lot of action and violence.

Gangsta is pretty much Black Lagoon set in an alternate timeline with super soldiers and a mute and angrier Rock and a Gender Bender Balalaika. The manga is pretty kickass too.

Both gangsta and black lagoon are based around a team (or duo) which get paid to do dirty work, in both there is a helpless character who is rescued by said team and becomes part of it whereupon it becomes part of there daily life.

Lots and lots of guns and gang related events.

They have a very similar feel from the stylized intros, settings of a criminal paradise, and character designs

In both animes the lead characters are mercenaries living in a very dangerous and obscure place, where lots of crime happen. Both are very action packed and with lots of gore

Both work as hired mercenaries Both have a similar tone and feel Black Lagoon is generally more violent Gangsta has characters who have super powers

Charisma and darkness, comedy and drama in equal parts. This could be the equation defining Gangsta. and Black Lagoon. Corruption, crime, violence, gangs and guns. Two imaginary places -in fact, with so many allusions and similarities with places that we all recognize– Ergastulum (Gangsta.) and Roanapur (Black Lagoon). These fictional cities apparently ruled by the chaos and destruction associated to crime, will become the scenario of fellowship and loyalty. Even the two "new" characters in that scenarios, Alex (Gangsta.) and Rock (Black Lagoon) share the same inquiring behavior. Although at first they look scared, eventually they will merge with their partners, immersed in the gang   read more

I think Black Lagoon and Gangsta are similar and different at the same time. There aren't many animes similar to Black Lagoon, so i choosed Gangsta. I think Gangsta is more "serious" than Black Lagoon, and more "surnatural" too. Black Lagoon is realistic, there isn't any "super-humans". If you're looking for a "gunny" anime, Black Lagoon is for you.

Both shows are more mature in terms of intended audiences, and both deal with more backstreet scenery (gangs, drugs etc.)
