Both themes of having to balance otaku and real life are prevalent in both anime. Also, some lighthearted jabs at otaku culture are present.
Both are very similar in many ways, although completely different plots. First, both are ecchi, harem, comedy, and school. Both main characters are put into situations to be surrounded by girls. Both have to do with having an otaku life vs real life. Both have tsundere female with light hair. The main difference is that Netoge is more gaming orientated and Oreimo is more anime orientated. But in they are very similar even when it comes down to the OP, which sounds remotely the same.
