Solving problems, offering deals, and dealing with spiritual apparitions. Noragami and xxxHOLiC offer an experience like no other with its supernatural themes.
Both series' main male protagonist are involved with dealing with conflicts that deals with supernatural phenomenons. They take place in a traditional/modern setting with various gags. The supporting characters also play various roles that influences each conflict. There is a good mixture of comedy, drama, and emotional basis that makes both series enjoyable.
The anime both deal with the supernatural/afterlife and use Japanese folklore in some episodes. xxxHolic is about a boy named Watanuki who can see the supernatural, like spirits. He wants to cure himself of this "Curse," much like Hiyori wants to cure her half-phantom state. Both of them meet a character that says they can cure it, and eventually learn to cherish and embrace their gift. If you love a good story line that can go from serious to funny with no problem and with mysteries of the supernatural, I'd give this a try.

Both shows feature someone who is an expert in the supernatural granting a wish in return for something - and they end up getting someone else's help as a result.

Both focus on characters that are able to see things others are not really able to see and focus around procedual plots of resolving problems for others.
