Both are they set in a historical era, with lots of wars and fights for freedom.
The main characters are leaders/great warriors, but in Sengoku Basara they're more centered on the personal fighting than in Utawarerumono.
They give off the same feeling and they can both be a bit boring sometimes, but if you liked one of them you'll most likely like the other one.
