How? Well, to start with Kyon talks like Gintoki. Because whenever Haruhi says/does something annoying, abnormal, silly etc. Kyon rebuts back to her but not in direct, he just says it in his mind just like what Gintoki does too.

Welcome to the world of misadventure fun. The Yorozuya and the SOSBrigade are here to invite you into their club. Despite having two completely somewhat different genre, they are clearly the same. The adventure both takes place in a world where they are surrounded by aliens, espers, time-traveler, and the Amanto ( Gintama Only ). Oh, and the humans. Male protagonists in both anime are guys who have to put up with many 'silly' characters or troublesome situations. Kyon and Gintoki are simple men who are sometimes bored, sarcastic, pervy but all in all gentle with their dear people. And the irony is they are voiced by the same actor - Tomokazu Sugita.
Other similarities: despite different genres both series have sci-fi elements and the feeling of randomness; Kagura and Haruhi are bossy; Yorozuya and SOS Brigade engage in many weird tasks.
