Both have a similar theme of recovery/redemption, and both deal with similar issues, such as suicide and bullying.
Both movies explore the social context leading to a teenage suicide attempt. While Colorful adds a supernatural twist and Silent Voice more romance, both tell the same basic story. Both show what depression, alienation, loneliness, bullying and rejection do to individuals, teenagers in particular. Both include the extended social environment such as friends (or the lack of) and family. Colorful does a better job with the characters, Silent Voice with the storytelling and production values. With a little hyperbole, one could say Colorful is the Art-House edition of the story, and Silent Voice the popcorn movie one.
Both are wonderful films focusing on themes of suicide and depression. However, the biggest difference is likely the tone.
Both are dramatic, but Colorful could be considered the more "quiet" version of A Silent Voice. Think of Colorful as a beautiful piano solo, while A Silent Voice is more of a moving orchestra symphony.

The storylines in the two movies surround themes of depression, suicide and rebirth. In 'Colorful' the rebirth is more literal, bringing in supernatural aspects. The rebirth in 'Koe no Katachi' is more figurative - a choice made by the characters to have a fresh start.
The main plot of both movies are similar, where the characters face new relationships and emotions through experiencing life, slowly changing their world-view and getting them to realise how valuable it is.
Both are beautiful films and make the watcher reflect on their own self. They should be a must-watch for everyone.
