Both series are centered around teenagers' realitionships in school. Both of them get their humour from the perverted scenes, along with the interactions between the beautiful but kinda lewd girl and the quiet, polite guy who is, however, into the lewdness of the girl.
The male protagonist of Hajimete no Gal and the female protagonist of B-gata H-kei wants to lose their virginity so they are both desperate and urges to have sex with their partners badly.
How the dysfunctional first relationship are supposed to be, yet left with room to grow, and hence, to get a hold of something genuine, as long as the thoughts are put into actions, instead of being just (wet) expectations. Therefore, I might get closer to why Yukana Yame chose the cheery.
Return to the question, "What came to mind first, Copium or Hopium, or neither?", it's personal interpretation.
