Similar duo of protagonists ( leaders with a difficult personality and their cute and caring assistant ) who solve mysteries while a bad guy is lurking in the dark. Both have a similar rhythm and narrative drive. Pretty relaxing and quiet anime despite a latent darkness.
the two stories are murder investigative shows that showcase a man / woman partnership with hints of affection. the roles are reversed. the man lead in yakumo is similar to the woman lead in beautiful bones. i'd say the character development isn't as refined in yakumo. but yakumo has a deep paranormal feel going for it, which makes it novel from just investigating dead corpses found. what makes yakumo novel from other paranormal anime is that; the way that the lead frames his perspective on ghosts and leftover energies of the dead - is quite realistic . it's tangible. it feels as if that's

Both anime center around introverted character that specialises in some characteristic field. Their field of expertise, focus on something and past leaves them somewhat outside of the rest of people. Obviously there are sidekicks to each of them.
