These shows aren't really similar. Rather, if you've seen one, you might want to see the other to get what you were lacking. They're two halves of a good show.
Pretty Cure has the slice-of-life goodness that Nanoha shortchanges in the name of action. And real shoujo cuteness that's much better than moe.
Pretty Cure has shonen-ish fights that are fairly pointless. Nanoha also has shonen-ish fights (though in a different way; more energy attacks, less punching) where the characters really try and the fights matter more.
And both are really yurish.
