Both of these shows explore the nature of storytelling and the relationship between the creator and the created, with self-aware writing and meta use of character tropes.

Both of these stories involve characters who know they are fictional and interact with their authors in the anime. In this sense both stories are very meta, being a narrative about narrative. In Princess Tutu the characters are fighting against their author, Drocelmeyer to change the story from being a tragedy. In Re:Creators the cast is much larger and have varied opinions and relationships with their authors from antagonistic to familial.
