the main theme is survival in both types of shows,matches happen and in these matches the opponents have no restrictions so killing &brutality is common
Both are gritty, and violent with a soft-hearted main character who gets dragged into a plot larger than himself. Both series use a power system that is unique to each character and there are varying forms of alliances and team-ups. Both have largely unexplained supernatural or illogical set-ups for their existing systems but are fun to watch.

Both are survival games with different aspects. One takes place from a cellphone game that takes place in the real world while the other takes place in a prison like environment. Both having to take on challenges to fight for their lives.
