Both are at first very simple, but become darker at the end.
And in the two there is a friends relationship on summer.

Both are slow-paced magical girl anime that concentrate more on slice-of-life and coming-of-age than actual fighting. They concentrate on a close relationship between two girls, with one of those girls being a supernatural girl who suddenly appeared in the normal girl's life one summer day. Even the endings are pretty similiar, too.
Starts off cutely and introduces two main girls who have some sort of magical girl transformation.
It gets darker as the episodes go by and the end is bittersweet.
It has a lot to do with friendship and the "darkness" in people
After watching both series I found a LOT of similarities between the two. Both anime are slow-paced magical girl shows that take place over the course of a summer. Girls from different places meet up and start a journey of magic, friendship, and drama. At the start, they both feel light-hearted and simple, but halfway through, they take a dark turn and become progressively sadder and more serious. While they are magical girl stories, a large focus in both series is the interactions and drama between the characters. Both shows also have a deeper message/story than your typical "fight minions and defeat the bad guy"

Umi Monogatari and Uta Kata are two slow-paced magical girl anime about two girls, a human and someone with some kind of mystical power/origin, meeting during one summer. Though they aren't that similar, with Uta Kata arguably being much more darker, there is more of an emphasis on drama and learning about the darkness within the hearts of people in these anime. The scenery and music in both anime are nice too.
