Protagonist of BB is the male version of the Cross Ange protagonist - they both live in a world where everyone can use some kind of energy that they cannot (quartz/mana) and they are branded because of that (un-sorcerer/norma).
Additionally, in these anime we have golems/ragnamails which are basically the same, and the protagonist are gifted with the one that no one else can use.
Other similarities include a lot of mecha, occasional drama, deceased family members & weak-becomes-strong kind of protagonist.
