Both are bloody, historical, clan to clan..The only difference is that Basilisks characters are mostly ninjas and Shigurui's are samurais..

Both very violent, and both involving ninjas/ancient Japan, Shigurui has less "magic factor" (ie the combat techniques) than Basilisk, but both shows have the same bloody style. They are both great shows.
These two anime have samurai vs. samurai and the same dark, bloody atmosphere! Both shows involve creepy, old, and ugly men. Also, both shows have graphic violence, blood, and nudity.
The folk tale style of characters and story are my main reasons for recommending one for the other.
these 2 brutal stories of blood feud offer 2 unrelenting and bloody takes on revenge.
be warned though, Basilisk is a complete story while Shigurui only completes its telling in manga form.

If you enjoy historical Japanese stories, very drama heavy stories, and very violent samurai stories, then both of these delivers on those fronts.
