Both are gambling animes done by the same director and mangaka, both main character's are also voiced by the same seiyū, Hagiwara Masato.
Same exact art style, produced by the same people - Kaiji is sure to reward the viewer with as much intensity as Akagi, if not more. I highly recommend watching Akagi if you plan on watching Kaiji.
Both are made after the manga of the same author, both deal with gambling and exceptional, life-and-death situations when the main characters have to use all their intellect and presence of mind to survive. Similar design, too, ugly at the first sight but it grows on you.
Both Psychological animes with battles of wits and finding out what ur opponent has. Both about gambling.
Both anime comes from MADHOUSE, also done by the same director and mangaka.
The main characters are very similar.
Both are gambling animes, the little difference that in Akagi they focus on Mahjong (a chinese board game), but in Kaiji they play various games that can get them killed or they can win a lot of money, this part is correct for Akagi also
Exactly the same art style and use of tension, suspense and thrills. Both are great series but I like Kaiji a little better.

Same story, same feel, cept Akagi's a badass mudabitch, but Kaiji sheds manly tears
Both are gambling anime directed by the same director. The style of animation is completely the same. Both of them have amazing cliffhangers and both main characters analyze their opponents psychologically and play mind games in order to get the results they want.
The whole idea that they dont become scared of death and such

Same Author, Same Seiyuu for the main character, same graphic style.
Most important, both animes are about gambling, but the theme is made more psychological than what it could look like.
Same creator
Same art style
Both gambling animes
There's a lot of pressure to win in both
The main difference would be that Kaiji is more of a good guy and doesn't have such a dominating presence

same atmosphere that makes you uneasy, same author with an very unique art style (Nobuyuki Fukumoto). Akagi and Kaiji are two characters that are very similar when it comes to gambling. They go all out!
Akagi may seem darker than Kaiji, but the deep psychological analysis of characters remains the same.

Both created by the same author with suspense, strategy, and gambling. Similar art styles. Though I don't recommend you watch it if you don't like/understand mahjong.

Both anime are about gambling, where the protagonists risk their lives. They have the same art style because both anime are manga adaptations made by the same mangaka. Both anime are psychologically intense, with breathtaking mindgames, amazing plot twists and shocking moments.
Both series are by the same author and contain similar themes (gambling/challenges). Akagi seems more mature at first, but I'd say both are on equal footing by Kaiji's second season (and you should watch both).
Art is pretty much the same, except improved on Kaiji, and both have OSTs that suit the theme of their respective series.

Firstly both anime share the same studio, director and mangaka, so you can expect some very similar vibes. Both anime revolve around gambling and mind games, in a life-and-death scenario. Kaiji differs being a much more humane and brutal story, showing the internal struggles of its protagonist as he is put in multiple gambles. While Akagi showcases more of an overpowering force of wit with its genius unbeatable protagonist who fears absolutely nothing whilst its gambles all revolving around the game of Mahjong. So, if your a fan of Nobuyuki Fukumoto or stories of wit and gambles in life-and-death scenarios, then it's likely you'll love

Same original creator. The tension during the matches is the same, it only changes the game, the bets are absurd, and the two MC's are voiced by the same person, Masato Hagiwara.

Basically Akagi 2, except that the MC lost a pair and is more of a wimp than he was before..

Kaiji and Akagi are the main characters competing in games with high stakes bets, though Akagi focuses on Mahjong.
Both feature predominantly male casts and big noses. Seriously there are almost no women in sight and the noses sure do take some getting used to.
Same author, same art, both are about a mastermind who is doing gambling and can die if he loses.
Both are also masterpieces.
Both are gambling anime. Akagi is more calm and calculating while Kaiji often depicts the worst in human traits.
A young man uses his natural aptitude for gambling to rise from the dregs of society and become a gambling legend. The stakes are high, with lives on the line and large amounts of money changing hands. Since they come from the same manga-ka, they share their distinct art style of pointy-faced characters and crazy old men with white hair who bully their subordinates.
Both are excellent animes based on the gambling world of the same author and with different points of view. Kaiji is a bum whose life consists of betting, and Akagi is a mahjong genius who descended into darkness
Quite an obvious recommendation. Kaiji and Akagi are both original stories from the brilliant Nobuyuki Fukumoto. The reason I'm recommending Akagi is that it is similar in tone and it revolves around riichi mahjong, which is also played in the Kaiji Manga after the second season of the Anime.
