In both series the characters must participate in a cruel game and defeat one another, and the last one standing is about to obtain enormous power. However, things don't always go as planned. ;3
In both series females play main role and are the ones who take action only that in Rozen Maiden they are also dolls.
Considering that Mai HiME is more than twice longer (26 episodes) you could say it is the same as watching both season of Rozen Maiden since in season 1 dolls are getting all friendly with each other at first when drama strikes in season 2 where they actually need to fight each other.
I Mai HiME it would be like first 15 episodes are season 1 but the rest are season 2 with darker tone.
-Both animes are about receiving or meeting a third party (coincidence or not) to fight in a survival game, and aim to defeat the other partnerships to win the game.
-The last one standing is granted a wish and/or physical prize.

The first 2 Rozen Maiden seasons together are very similar to Mai-HiME. Both shows are character-driven; we can see how the different personalities and attitudes of the characters fuel their interactions and decisions. Drama is present in both shows, although there is a good amount of comic relief as well. Both series include battles, although there is more action in Mai-HiME. While the two series are lighthearted at first, they become darker and sadder as the plots progress.
