Actually, the only thing both series have in common are the protagonists, who both play baseball by throwing nothing but fastballs.
The most obvious difference is, that Major was pretty much only about some overly cheery guy, who is the best anyway, gathers some friends and gets them into his hobby - and everyone's performances increases. Touch, which is way older anime, also many of these elements, yet hasn't a story that is as unsurprising as Major. Apart from the romance part, which still is kind of cute.

Both of them are similar because MC in love baseball and improve his skills during whole series. Both are coming-of-age stories revolving around baseball with plenty of drama and great characters. The main characters in both are alike. Both anime shows has a little bit of romance, childhood, and in both protagonists has been through a death. If you liked one of them, you will definitely like the other one.
