Both stories seem to be based on the tragedy of fukushima but both the anime Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 as well as the Coppelion manga started before fukushima. (Which is a freaking scary thought in itself.) While TM8.0 deals with the situation just after the catastrophe, Coppelion is set several years after it's respective incident.
While both are very different in genré, they set a rather similar tone.
Very similar theme and story progressing.
Both take place in a ruin caused by a disaster.
Coppelion and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 both involves a tragic setting and the dealing of its aftermath. The main characters from both series are helpful towards other people but often time makes difficult decisions in order to save the lives of others. Among its themes in both series are survival, helping the helpless, and working together to make a better world.
The animes deal on the subject of a disaster that occurred in tokyo, and there are still people who survived this tragedy and are seeking to overcome it, the development of both are related as the lives of people who are in the midst of the catastrophe, what happens to them and what are their thoughts on what to do now.
