Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas - Meiou Shinwa, Akatsuki no Yona Recommendations
Are you a fan of angsty characters, broken friendships, betrayal and battles? Also awesome Voice actors, animation and soundtrack?
These anime even though they have different settings (one is based in ancient Korea, the other is based in ancient Greece), and different plots (one is about evil vs good in the fate of the whole world, while the other is about different sides trying to unify/separate a kingdom), they both have many similarities:
- The heroine (Sasha/Yona) is someone that is considered "Divine" and she has a group of followers who have special abilities/powers. She is sweet and naive but through the years she becomes more fierce
and independent.
- The hero (Tenma/Hak) is someone who excels in physical fights, he is playful and energetic and there are hints he likes the heroine in a romantic way. He would give his life for the people he loves.
- The anti-hero/villain (Alone/Soo-Won) is someone extremely intelligent and powerful that used to be the most innocent, kind and gentle of them all until something happened to make him switch sides.
These three characters were a group of best friends since childhood, having bonds like a family. Later certain events occur that turn one of them enemy of the other two. Reincarnation plays a big deal in both plots and the characters are all carefully crafted, mostly the relationship of the main trio which will bring out a lot of feelings from you, specially if after the anime you decide to read the manga of both.
While ANY has the focus more on politics, war and romance, SSLC has the focus more on fantasy, war and friendship but both are really well done, high-rated series, so if you liked one, believe me, you'll like the other because they really have many similar characters and feels.

Both anime share a lot of common traits. They're stories focused on the break of a trio of friends, very close since childhood times.
There is the girl who has an important political/religious role in their society (Yona / Sasha); the strong warrior who protects her, being in lower hierarchy (Hak / Tenma); and the fragile corrupted villain (Soo Won / Alone).
While the plot of Akatsuki no Yona follows her journey to find her warriors (the Dragons), Lost Canvas focuses on the fights between the warriors (Saints) of Sasha and Alone themselves. Of course, there is much more involved.
Yona happens in a fictional ancient Korea. TLC,
on the other side, happens in Greece/Italy in the XVIII century, few years before French Revolution.
You'll find GREAT character development in both series, also stunning animation and amazing soundtrack. The storyline itself is very well made (both have female authors).
Not to mention the awesome mythogy behind the manga, since one is quite original (with some elements that resemble Fushigi Yuugi and Avatar) and the other has Kurumada's Saint Seiya as base.
Those are two epics I highly recommend to anyone interested in a breath-taking story, with charismatic characters and great anime adaptation. If you're a fan of one of those series, then you must watch the other one.
(Btw, I'm 100% sure Shin-Ah's master is Deuteros <.<)
