Chihayafuru

Chihayafuru greatly reminds me of Kimi ni Todoke. They somehow look similar in terms of art, however Chihayafuru is slightly more detailed than the other. They both give a relaxing feeling whenever you watch them.
Kimi ni Todoke mainly focuses on romance, while Chihayafuru focuses on a game called "Karuta". There's a bit of romance as well in Chihayafuru.
the art is very similar, and for me art is a very big thing. they both are very nice animes and although the story isnt the same, they gave me a feeling that they were similar and they both are really good animes :)
They both just make you laugh spontaneously, give you rushes of happiness, and moments where you just want to bawl your eyes out. Both Sawako and Chihaya just make you feel so much emotion while they go through their life's becoming the people they want to be and therefor both show a lot of character develop along the way.
Although they differ on the competitve sport front, I find that if you enjoy the character development in either anime, you'll enjoy them both. Although, Kimi Ni Todoke focuses more on Sawako's self-development, both animes display highschool friends as the main support system for that development to take place. If you like high school settings, first loves, and characters' desire to improve themselves, you'll enjoy both Chihayafuru and Kimi ni Todoke.
