The Gungrave game's story, in which the anime'ss story is based, was written by the author of Trigun. They have similar pace and feeling of nostalgy. Both are based on western themes and have lone heroes having to deal with errors of the past.
I think both were developed by the same people and this would make sense because they are very similar in style to each other. Trigun is less gory and violent but still very good. Both have a great storyline, higly developed emotional characters, and action packed gun fights. I higly recomend if you enjoyed gungrave to check out trigun you will like it.
Follows right behind Trigun and Cowboy Bebop of amazing Sci-fi anime about gunslingers and criminals.
Both characters are excellent gunsmen and are portrayed as such throughout their animes, both in their former life. Grave is more on a revenge trip than Vash though and definitely won't hesitate to kill... most of the time. I think Gungrave is a little darker then Trigun but give it a try if you enjoyed Trigun.
While Trigun is filled with comedy and action, anyone with a brain can see the serious undertone of the series, especially in the second half. Gungrave lacks the comedy that was found in Trigun, but the emotional ride is just as good, if not better. Not to mention, the final episode of Gungrave is quite possibly one of the best endings of an anime I have ever seen.

A more serious and darker version of Trigun, and has one of the best story development ever.
Gungrave is Yasuhiro Nightows most underrated work ( Though he was only the character designer for both the games and anime) Genuinely interesting series with a lot of good characters and a good mix of grounded drama and more fantastical elements, all things that made Trigun interesting. Gungrave is set in a more modern and realistic setting, but has a lot of crazy things going on. The only other major difference to take note of is the lack of comedy in Gungrave compared to Trigun. Also, despite being based on a game, it doesn't expect you to have played it to watch the show,

The protagonist Brandon Heat is very similar to Vash the Stampede, a character with a senseless name, with huge guns that puts himself in improbable poses in the midst of intense gunfights; both characters seem initially simplistic, but acquire depth when (as the plot advances) they'll be tormented by their past.
Both are old-gen and give you similar experience in fights and the plot itself. Talking about the difference Trigun usually keeps a good light-hearted and warm feel to the plot, but Gungrave tends to be a little more eerie and edgy in its plot. But you end up getting almost the same fun with both the anime.

Both shares similarity in sci fi elements and ofc guns with the same creator "Yasuhiro Nightow"...... Gungrave is more into darker side with mafia and sci fi meanwhile Trigun is more of a light hearted series with great side cast..... If u are a trigun fan u should give Gungrave a try
