Both series is a bit old (20-40 years), with similar art. Each show has a young hero with a half-eyed and nearly unbeatable enemy, and has lost a parent, while he was young. The story is realistic, but just for a time being.
Although there is 15 years of age difference between these two series, they have surprisingly many things in common: there is a violent battle with a one-eyed monster, a revence, at least one significant character death, opponent who sabotages the protagonist's journey, canines, etc. Also, both are Toei Animation's series.
