Whisper of the Heart forms an interesting connection with The Boy and the Heron. It's a movie about coming of age and finding your voice in the creative process, with two teenagers discovering romance and their artistic/creative ambitions.
The director Yoshifumi Kondo was set inside ghibli as the successor to hayao miyazaki, unfortunatly he died two years after the release of Whisper of the Heart. One of the themes of The Boy and the Heron is legacy and succession.
