Both have children as the main characters, some kind of missions and high technologies. Also, a bit dark story line.
Both are intense coming of age stories about children facing otherwordly enemies that intend to destroy them. As each show goes on, you learn about each child character, as well as who these "enemies" are. Neither show pulls any punches in most regards and both have an unusual art-style that is both inconsistent, and gorgeous, at times. Both are also really good, though Noein's plot is bit messy and convoluted.
