Both animes begin with a human from the past that has been put into a cryogenic capsule and awakens into a distant post-apocalyptic future. Both main characters have a destiny to help the present world. Origin is more about the conflict between an failed experiment that made the nature go out of control and technology, whereas in Blue Gender the conflict is not internal, but external, the humans fighting against aliens.
I found the plots very similar, almost as if Origins was a retelling of Blue Gender though there are enough differences to make both worth watching. I enjoyed one as much as the other.
Both anime have a main character that is unfrozen in the distant future to find the world as they know it has ended.
