During the time of their eras, these films revolve around the pollution of Earth and the corruption of humanity that explores more into the nature and the very personalities of the civilization that drove them into such state.
One can say that Hayao Miyazaki and Yoshiyuki Tomino were at their peak at that time (Miyazaki writing more of Ghibli movies and Tomino as the helm of HF back when it was a LN alongside directing other Gundam series during the period).
If you like one, then no doubt you will enjoy the other if you like the themes of nature, earth pollution, corruption of humanity, etc.
