Both main characters are good-natured, kind-hearted, likeable girls with a little bit of a ditzy side. Love interests are a bit detached but grow as people once they meet the main character. Interesting plots with a supernatural side to it.
Similar sweet main character, with a sweet romance, and fantasy elements.
I wholeheartedly love both, two of my favourite Shoujo anime.

Tohru and Kobato are the same people in different worlds. Both are the dearest and most needed people in the world. The Fruit's Basket and Kobato's plot is not entirely identical, but there is a feeling of some magical mystery in the air and the cute couple where there is a sweet girl and an explosive but kind boy.

- Both feature so-called “airhead” female leads
- Both incorporate supernatural elements into the normal world
- Both rely on the concept of spirits/ghosts in particular, as well as touching on themes of grief and loss (more so in Furuba)
- Both have similar animation styles, particularly when they devolve into lower resolution images to convey moments of comedy
