While both series are focused on different premises, they share the theme of fantasy and abnormality that are not often seen in the real world.
Both series' main male protagonist also have somewhat similar personality although Nai in Karneval tends to be more shy. Nonetheless they often tries to put others before themselves.
Both series involves different organizations with objectives.
They also have comedy, drama, action, and emotional moments in between some of the episodes.
Both anime are similar:
- The main character is a very young boy who tries to protect his dear friends
- Magical powers, each character has a special ability
- Different undercover organizations facing each others to protect humanity or to cause damage
- Strange animals, also Karneval and 07 Ghost have a little cute flying pet but in different colours
- Beautiful graphics with action, humour, etc etc
Basically these anime are nearly alike.
The key difference is in the two main characters(or in 07 Ghosts case, 3)....the lead character of 07 Ghost shares more of a similar personality to Garecki in 07 Ghost while the lead character of KArneval, Nai, shares a similar personality to the two best friends in 07-ghost.
There is an unbreakable bond between the lead characters and their best friends they are willing to do whatever it takes to protect....;
Different organizations that have plans that sort of make no sense.
A bit of a shounen-ai hint....though surprisingly 07-Ghost is the more subtle of the two.

Both are supernatural fantasy theme stories with lots of cute bishies in it. A focus on friendship as well too (Even if they butt heads from time to time due to starking different personalties) and saving the friends when the need calls for it.

Both series are filled to the brim with bishounen and have a cute almost ambiguous main character with a rather naive world view. Both their closest friends are more down to earth mature minds with troubles of their own and share aloof tendencies while being fairly hard on themselves. Both series' are filled with interesting and visually pleasing fights and supernatural themes. If you like one you are bound to like the other.
