Taking place in a time of warfare, both series focuses on its characters and their experiences as soldiers/pilots during such a crisis.
The main male protagonist is both determined, strong willed, and has combat experience. Despite the odd relationship he has with some of the others, he proves himself to be a capable soldier during critical times of need.
There is an adventurous style the way both series are presented with secrets, revelations, and a past that unfolds itself throughout their stories. Expect stellar action, drama, and also bits of romance.
While Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta takes place in the air and on airship looking things, Senjou no Valkyria: Gallian Chronicles takes place on the land, and with tanks and guns. Both have a romance built around the core plot of action, duty, and major character build up.
