Both anime have very similar stories:
The protagonist met with the girl she idolized and they had impromptu performance on the street. Said girl is experienced in showbiz and has just quit her previous group. Then they started recruiting members to form a new group.
This new group is trying to survive (and hopefully succeed) as artists in digital era where everything is measured by numbers on social media.

Similarities:
* Both have female MCs that want to be in a band
* MCs coincidentally meets former musicians/idols that wants to be #1 again
* Aired at the same time
Really weird that these two anime are airing the same season because they are extremely similar. Both are music anime about a squad of girls trying to make it. Jellyfish is about a virtual idol and her entourage, while Girls Band Cry is about, well, a band.
Both shows have two main girls who might be in love with each other. Both have one of the main girls who was a succesful idol but quit for some reason, and their old group comes back in the story to haunt them. They are two very character focused stories with their fair shares of drama and comedy.

Both anime are about a once famous or popular idol/musician who is once again starting from the beginning due to reasons, somehow having the main protagonist of the anime (who they've newly met) help them in their journey.
Characters in both anime have a similar energy to them and the story and emotions of the characters are portrayed amazingly in both anime.

Both shows are about girls starting a band... duh. They're very similar in terms of plot and aired in the same season. Because they're so alike, if you liked one, you'll like the other as well.
