Both shows start off with a similar premise. Both involve a male MC, with previous emotional trauma, whose life suddenly gains purpose when the female MC suddenly enters his life declaring that she is his fiance. Not to mention, the female lead in Ai Yori Aoshi is the typical "old-fashioned, proper Japanese lady" type, which compliments setting of this show.
