Both are exceptional romantic stories with highly developed characters and a strong plot. Ai Yori Aoshi is much more idealistic. Golden Time delves much deeper into the traumatic past of the male lead. Ai Yori Aoshi hints and the depth of trauma that the male lead had to endure for years; however, it fails to fully show how the male lead has overcome his past so that he can persue a healthy relationship with the leading female.
