Both are made from Hiromu Arakawa.
Both animes have a good sense of comedy, drama, and romance.
Even though FMA deals with the supernatural and Gin no Saji is more reality based, they are both extremely good animes that deal with the struggles that occur during life.
The problems that the main character from both series are extremely relatable to normal people.
Granted, Silver Spoon has no plot similarities to FMAB. However, the humor is the similar, as is the art (which is fairly distinctive when compared to other drawing styles). I highly recommend it.

It's a great watch. You'll notice these similarities once you watch it, and its thoroughly enjoyable while being vastly underrated

Although the genre are very much different, Silver Spoon and Fullmetal Alchemist are originally made by the same mangaka. Both can show you the conflict that will touch your humanity, and both have slow but relaxing romance relationship.
