I know this might seem like its very unlikely, I am doing this recommendation through their artistic direction. Because Shaft and the ever crazy Shinbou were responsible for the production of this series, their art direction is very close to being 100% parallel. They are both filled with so many abstract images and one could even see a completely similar frame in Madoka and compare it to one in Bakemonogatari. Even their choice for the voice actors for their main heroines are the same people. (Saito Chiwa) for both Akemi and Hitagi, (Kitamura Eri) For one Karen and Sayaka, and ofcourse (Kato Emri) for Hachikuji   read more

Both have dense dialouges. Both have characters that tilt their heads in a slow-motion fashion If you liked the way monogatari created design and color that stood apart from other anime you'll find Madoka very suitable to your liking, with its alternative worlds and hallucinogenic nature

I thought these two anime had very similar vibes. A lot of the scenes in Madoka Magica reminded me of Monogatari. Also the stories can be pretty dark and twisted along with some of the characters. If you liked one of these anime then you should check out the other.

They may not be too similar like you are thinking, but since they're made by SHAFT, you'll expect similar stuff on both: -Thought-provoking dialogues -Twists on the storyline -Weird visuals -Creativity -Similar Japanese voice cast -Slow-motion head tilts

This recommendation is mostly because of the directing and art of each show - Madoka is, at times, a toned down version of Monogatari in that sense, and the trippy art direction is something I consider to be a huge plus. Not to mention many of the voice actors that were in Bakemonogatari also appear in Madoka Magica and do a great job (e.g. Homura and Senjougahara are voiced by the same person). Granted, there are large differences in the plot and themes of each show, but I think that there are enough similarites there so if you liked one, there's a better than average   read more

Same feeling of an empty, desolate world and main characters wanting to save everyone around them.

Both were animated by shaft and both have a similar sense of wordplay too and both have a focus around strange supernatural ongoings too and have tsundere like female leads included.

Both made by shaft with similar amount of dialogue, pacing, and art style weirdness.
