Exploring how screwed up is an individual vs exploring how screwed up is society overall, with both series having the protagonist as a mere spectator, althoguh Irabu's goal is healing or at least helping people with whatever mental problems they have, while Kino barely intervenes, but both leaving the spectator to reflect on what happens in the series.
Both can be resumed as: The world is not beautiful, therefore, it is/You're not perfect, therefore you are.
Heavily recommended if you want some thought provoking stories.
