Both are stories that focus on unresolved trauma and how tragedies of the past influence the current generations. I like the fact that none of the characters in either are artificially made to make them likable (or unlikable) but rather that act like humans in front of adversity. Both are also stories of loss and the meaning of true love further than the romantic type of love. Finally, if you love unconventional animation, you'd love how both are directed.
