Gundam Witch from Mercury HEAVILY draws from the premise of Shoujo Kakumei Utena, except adding mechs, a much higher budget, and removing all surrealism. There is no doubt that Kobayashi Hiroshi intentionally references Utena again and again. Both shows feature a high school girl repeatedly dueling for the betrothal right of a princess-type character who loves to tend gardens in her spare time. In this show, the personalities of the girls are somewhat flipped from Utena, with Mercury have a less confident personality and Rembran having a more confident personality, however the core dynamic between the characters is very similar. Both occur in a high school setting where the main characters duel to marry a girl. Both shows have a female MC coming out of nowhere to win the duels.
- Witch from Mercury heavily references Utena. From it's OP, and initial premise. To even have a character named Chutuary (Nicknamed) ChuChu which is the same name as Anthy's friend or Pet in Utena.

The Witch from Mercury is obviously inspired by RGU, and does a good job at a much more "kiddy", modern (or well future) look at the idea of the similarities of the bride system in both series to how women in the real world are treated as objects for the desire of others and how ostracization occurs to anyone who does not fit the norm.
To avoid spoilers, I will end this recommendation by noting that RGU has a much better and motivational conclusion in regards to its main antagonist. If you enjoyed Suisei no Majo you will be incredibly in awe at the brilliance of

The students duelling to make statements and win the bride's hand in Witch from Mercury is a reference to the council student duels in Utena, with mechas instead of swords.
They both takle themes of chlid abuse, autonomy, oppression and adolescence. Their settings and genres are very different (space sci-fi vs. magical girl fantasy), but they both have cool fighting scenes and interesting plot twist that aren't there only for shock value.

The two shows are strikingly similar; it's clear that The Witch from Mercury took some cues from Revolutionary Girl Utena. Both anime are about high school students who duel each other for the right to marry a particular girl, and the power that comes with her. In both cases, the protagonists are female, outsiders, and find themselves winning their respective brides very early on and having to fight to protect them.
