same english, vintage-style culture in both, beautifully portrayed. both have supernatural elements and contains fantasy (to an extent). and edgar and howl are both quite similar, in appearance and kind of in personality, both are extremely HOT!!!

Indeed both share an evident and delicate romantic and magic atmosphere.
- "Hakushaku to Yousei" has Lydia, "Howl's Moving Castle" has Sophie, both girls are brought into magic adventures by an handsome blonde guys (Edgar / Howl).
- Still, both anime are inspired to an old-england style in a past epoch (which may easily be around year 1900).
- Similar as well the gentle and gold-hearted personalities of the involved characters in both stories ♥
If you loved one of those yet, you'll definitely fall in love once again for the other!
I think that a good word to describe their magic stories is: Sweet.

Female lead characters are weak initially, however through trials they become stronger, and learn how to deal with the male leads. Both were way too short; Hakushaku to Yousei seemed incomplete, and in Howl's Castle, Howls personality did not seem clearly developed enough for me.'
