School-based romance anime that go (for the most part) beyond cliches into more interesting territory.
For KoiChoco, it's the unique setting and eccentric secondary cast, as well as the ever-present backdrop of political intrigue. For Toradora!, it's a fairly realistic and convincing development of the main cast, which is comprised of likeable characters with strong personalities.
Both anime are harem-ish, but are tasteful enough to avoid the stereotypically negative connotations of having a story centered around one guy and many girls. In particular, both include a strong (and very similar) relationship between two of the main heroines.
