An obscure recommendation, but losing a loved one is a universal feeling at some point in life. Kanamewo, despite being short, has the same power as Clannad AS in conveying such an emotion. Touching, to say the very least.
Do obviously watch Clannad then After Story if you haven't seen the series already.
