Code Geass and Gun X Sword were made by the same director, Goro Taniguchi, and some of the same staff members too. Both series involve giant mecha combat, although Code Geass starts off as more realistic in this respect. Revenge is an important theme in both stories, plus they also share a number of ideas and their characters have a few similar characteristics. Gun X Sword benefits from being self-contained and more focused.

The plots are a bit different, but if you want to watch a mecha show with over-the-top action where the protagonist is hellbent on revenge against the guy who killed his wife or mother, you aren't far off.
The style of these shows are so similar it is impossible not to notice. Bombastic, campy and over the top. If you like one, you're sure to find something to like about the other. Mech battles, hot ladies and wacky villains.
