Both are series that rather should be watched by grown ups since they tell the stories about rather adult problems.

-thugs & crooks & cops
-jazz & rap
-ex-prisoner MC
-not set in Japan
-strong brown-skinned woman
Both shows are pulpy romps through beautiful yet dangerous settings. Michiko to Hatchin are on the run because of the bounty on Michiko's head while the Great Pretender crew takes jobs around the globe depending on the target.
If you liked the action and the overall feel, I’d say that you would really enjoy this anime. I personally think that they are very similar.

Not to mention, the exciting road trip feel is included, much like in Michiko to Hatchin where essentially (If I recall the anime Corretly, It's been a while) Michiko and Hana are on the road constantly from the police you can see similar themes played out in Great pretender.

They have the same vibe with the great music and the way the stories go is easy-going focusing on the stories of the characters as partners in crime.
