• Both anime have a characteristic art style, art direction and color palette (although they're pretty different, so it's more of a "I want more nice art" than "I want more of the same" recommendation).
• The main character is a human teenager (a middle-school boy in YnU and a first-year high school girl in Hanako-kun).
• MC meets a person of the opposite gender who is no longer human (a vampire and a ghost, respectively).
• Hints of romance between the two.
• The tone of both series gets darker as they go on, but they never lose their humor.
